WVU BOG chair applauds appointment of former WVU quarterback Luck Following today’s announcement, West Virginia University Board of Governors Chairman Steve Goodwin commended Gov. Joe Manchin on the appointment of Oliver Luck as a new member of the Board.
"Oliver Luck is someone who has made this state and University proud, not only on the college and professional football field but in the academic and business world," Goodwin said. "As an undergraduate at WVU, he was a 4.0 student and finalist for a Rhodes Scholarship, and following a professional football career, he earned his law degree and has worked in the major sports and entertainment market - both internationally and in his beloved Houston.
"We welcome his participation on our Board as we recommit ourselves to the future success of WVU," Goodwin said. This announcement follows on the heels of Wednesday’s naming of Dr. Charles M. Vest, President Emeritus of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, to the panel.

Meanwhile, Goodwin is thanking outgoing members Robert A. Wells and Stephen B. Farmer for their "selfless service" over their respective four-year terms, which end June 30. "Robert’s and Steve’s love for and commitment to this University and what it stands for were quite evident over the past several years," Goodwin said. "I want to thank them on behalf of a grateful Board for helping guide and govern this institution during some challenging but rewarding times. They have helped make WVU a stronger and more effective institution because of their insight and experience."
Former Bethlehem Steel President Curtis "Hank" Barnette’s service on the Board also expires this month after two consecutive four-year terms. He was honored with BOG chairman emeritus status at the June 6 meeting.
